Everything about Sunshine Plaza totally explained

Sunshine Plaza is a large shopping centre located in Maroochydore in the Sunshine Coast area of Queensland, with major stores and supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, Myer, Kmart, Target, and Birch Carroll & Coyle cinemas, as well as another 250 individual shops. It is managed by Lend Lease.

History

Previously a shopping centre called "The Sands", Sunshine Plaza started as a redevelopment of this centre and began trading in 1994. It now has 62,000 m² of net lettable area with major tenants including Myer, Target, Kmart and Birch Carroll & Coyle.. A recent expansion included the addition of a Woolworths supermarket, a new leisure and restaurant precinct, and the expansion of the Birch Carroll & Coyle cinema complex was completed in 2002.
In early 2005 it was announced that Westfield will take a 25 percent stake in Sunshine Plaza. The General Property Trust wanted to sell its stake, but joint owners Lend Lease (through APPF Retail) had argued that they'd exercised their pre-emptive rights over the centre, which gave them the rights to buy any part that GPT wants to sell before anyone else can buy it.
